Plant and aquarium walls

This project started off as an aquarium stand with space for a few plants around it. In my excitement of designing, it quickly evolved to take over the entire wall and then the opposite wall, and now this room is my favorite part of the house.

Construction

The shelves were constructed with a double layer of 1'“ x 2” spruce that was sanded, stained, and held together with hundreds of little screws.

Aquariums

I’ve maintained 2 aquariums for years, 1 freshwater and 1 saltwater. The freshwater aquarium is my attempt at a low maintenance aquascape and is home to 10 varieties of aquatic plants, ember tetras, khuli loaches, and a pea puffer. The saltwater aquarium is home to a large brittle sea star, a cleaner shrimp, a handful of other little inverts, and 6 species of corals including several pieces that I’ve kept alive for over 10 years.
